Mom came running into the house exclaiming, "You've got to come see this gianormous caterpillar on the tomato plant! " And here he is! He was about 5 inches long, very strong and didn't want to be messed with. He even made a strange noise. Mom described it as big enough to bite her finger off. Dad of course thought she was exaggerating until we showed him. He's hard to see actually on the tomato plant. You'll have to look closely. Turns out he's a Tomato Hornworm. They grow into huge moths! We found 2 other slightly smaller ones when we looked hard enough. Pesky little things can eat an entire tomato plant. The kids called him Hermie after the cartoon.
